Aurora Ohio City Council Special Meeting
​September 30, 2024

The meeting was called to order by Council President George Horvat at 6:00 pm with the Pledge to the Flag of the United States of America. Council members present: Reva Barner, Brad Duguay, Peter French, George Horvat, Dennis Kovach, John Seitz and Scott Wolf. Sarah Grdina Gardner was absent. There were 8 City Official and Employees present and 1 Citizen in the gallery.

September 24, 2024 minutes were adopted as amended with P. French, G. Horvat and R. Barner abstaining.

Ordinances on 3rd Reading:

• Contract with Salsbury Industries for the Police Dept locker room expansion/upgrade was adopted.
• Contract extension with Star2Star Communications for the city’s phone service-Amended was adopted.

Ordinances or Resolutions on 2nd Reading:

• Contract with UMR, Sun Life Financial, and United Healthcare for employee benefits was adopted with rules suspended.
• Acceptance of real estate rates by the Budget Commission for 2025 was adopted with rules suspended.
• OPWC pre-authorization for resurfacing Old Mill Road to the corporate boundary was adopted with rules suspended.
• Contract with Burrier Service Co. to replace HVAC units on Fire Station #1 was adopted with rules suspended.
• Purchase of 420 N. Chillicothe Rd. located along the abandoned railroad right-of-way was adopted with rules suspended.

Ordinances on 1st Reading:

• Subrecipient Agreement with the Ohio Dept of Development Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program for Geauga Lake was adopted with rules suspended. This was a new grant application with an October 7 deadline to apply.
• Employees Generally for a change in compensation for a part time firefighter/paramedic was adopted with rules suspended.

Citizens Comments: April Secura, President of the League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County spoke about the upcoming event to be held on Thursday October 3. Sherry Rose, President of the Kent League will speak about Issue 1 with a Q & A following. She also gave a letter to each member of Council expressing concern that voters feel safe as regards to the Sheriff of Portage County, Bruce Zuchowski’s recent face book posts. October 7 is the deadline to register to vote.

The Mayor shared good news that there was final approval for a $500,000.00 Grant for the new Trail and permission to begin.
G. Horvat thanked D. Kovach for filling in for him as President of Council.
