About LWV of Northern Portage County

Picture
The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.

LWV NPC covers the communities of Aurora, Freedom, Garrettsville, Hiram, Mantua, Nelson and Shalersville. We welcome members from those areas and encourage all community members to get involved in our democracy.

Mission

Empowering voters. Defending democracy.

Vision

We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate.

Value

We believe in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The LWVNPC affirms its belief and commitment to diversity and pluralism. There shall be no barriers to participation in any activity of the LWVNPC on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.

The LWVNPC recognizes that diverse perspectives are important and necessary for responsible and representative decision-making. This inclusiveness enhances the organization’s ability to respond more effectively to changing conditions and needs.

The LWVNPC affirms its commitment to reflect the diversity of Northern Portage County in its Board, membership, and programs.

Regular Meetings

Regular Meetings of the Board, unless otherwise scheduled, are held the first Wednesday of each month at 5 pm. All Member Meeting/Public Meetings held at Moebius Nature Center, off Mennonite Road in Aurora, on the Third Wednesday of the Month. Meeting begins at 5 pm.

Public Meetings

Public Meetings are arranged periodically to present programs on local study topics that inform members as well as the public.

Research Meetings

Research Meetings are held with a small group of members to discuss one of the current League topics. Some members who have researched the topic supply the background material. Discussion follows, with each person free to voice his or her opinions. These may change during discussions.

Consensus Meetings

If this is a subject upon which a position is to be taken, a consensus meeting will be held with all members. The research committee will present study information, questions will be asked and the group will arrive at a CONSENSUS which will be recorded to develop the position. After adoption, the League may take action.

It is in working on a research committee that one really becomes involved, becoming well versed on all areas the League covers.
